Target’s Target
Target has a huge support system. Why? Because Target is a huge support system.
When taking a brief stroll in a Target store, you are faced with it all. Advertisements with disabled people, sections with pride clothing, and they include all races.
Companies can be inclusive for different reasons. Some choose to be inclusive because they have genuine support, and others are inclusive for popularity. In my opinion, Target wholeheartedly cares about their customers. Target includes every group of people possible, so even if this includes outcast groups, they are still making a difference by giving them representation. This representation makes the people who are uncommonly advertised feel seen. Even when they lose sales, they still have not stopped being inclusive towards certain groups, which shows their genuine support. Stores like Target are including these groups to normalize their existence in the public eye. This shows that they are not just doing it. To get more customers they’re doing it for the people to feel normalized.
Although this inclusivity does have its disadvantages. People who are not in favor of publicly supporting certain minorities will steer away from brands that represent them, like Target. Brands will continue to represent them even though they lose sales from people who don’t like them anymore for this reason, which shows that they have a genuine care for presenting these customers and making them feel welcome. Also, stores having representation makes the customers feel good, but also the overall normalizing of their existence allows them to feel seen. When Target supports a minority like people in wheelchairs (seen in the photo below!), it subconsciously makes the wheelchairs a part of everyday life.
Overall, being inclusive has its perks. Depending on a company’s values, they either showcase their support or do not. Target, undoubtedly, is a company that will not hide their support.
Your blog is really interesting and I loved how you specifically talked about Target and how its an inclusive store. I also liked how you mentioned that inclusiviveness has advantages but it also has disadvantages.
ReplyDeleteHi Tara! I love your opening line, it really hooks readers early on! Your comparison of the pros and cons of business inclusivity was really interesting and shows how society can prevent positive changes in the environment. Your picture at the end was a great example of targets inclusivity as well!
