Rolling Away

Creativity is the involvement of original ideas to make or do something new. It’s not easy to be creative, but sometimes the most unique ideas can be thought of on the most random days. For me, it was a snowy day.

My dad was out of town, so the house was left with four girls who, for the most part, relied on my dad to take care of “boy” stuff. If there was a 2nd man in the household, it would be me, which should be a concern if you know me on a personal level because I am a tiny girl who cannot hold a toolbox for more than five seconds. I know more than the others in my family because I have sudden concerns for my future independence, so my dad and I work on basic human survival skills like learning how to pump air into a tire or using a lawn mower. But a snow blower was not a concern of mine back then. This was all until me, my sisters, and mom, were stranded at home with a snowy driveway and no idea how to use a snowblower. Of course, my mom and sisters relied on me to figure it out, but I did not know what to do since I did not want to mess with the snowblower. And the look on my dad‘s face if I broke, the snowblower would be haunting. The obvious solution here would be to use a snow shovel, however, we could not find ours. Although what we could find was my snow gear. I strapped on everything we could find —coat, snow pants, snow boots, gloves, scarf— and I went outside. I plopped on the driveway and started to roll around, pushing the snow to the grass. At first, the snow cleaning felt like a joke. I was just rolling around on the driveway, hoping the snow would start to clear, and it did. My sisters and mom laughing, yet cheering me on from inside the house continued to motivate me. I continued to crawl, slide, and belly flop on the driveway, and eventually, I did it. Although I looked like a human marshmallow, the driveway was clear.

Bellyflopping is not always my first option but, but my idea showed just how far creativity can take you, and there is no perfect solution to any situation. I didn't just clear the driveway that day, but i also learned that trying something weird that no one else would think of, and just rolling with it anyways, does work.

(Im waiting on my dad to send me a picture of myself using a snowblower for the first time)
